§ 04 — SCIENCE

Red Thai kratom is a red-veined variety of Mitragyna speciosa from Thailand. A 2023 study found that Red Thai Kratom (RTK) extracts inhibit pancreatic lipase and alpha-glucosidase activity, and reduce fat accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, suggesting potential anti-obesity effects mediated by mitragynine and quercetin. Clinical evidence for therapeutic use remains limited, with most data derived from in vitro and animal studies. Epidemiological reports link regular Thai kratom use to reduced BMI and triglyceride levels, though controlled trials are lacking. Safety data are incomplete, with case reports of hepatotoxicity, dependence, and withdrawal syndrome associated with chronic use.
