§ 04 — SCIENCE
Cannabis contains over 100 cannabinoids, with THC being the primary psychoactive compound and CBD the primary non-intoxicating one. Evidence supports moderate efficacy for chronic pain, spasticity in multiple sclerosis, and chemotherapy-induced nausea. Evidence for anxiety and sleep disorders is mixed and of lower quality. Acute cognitive impairment is well-documented, and long-term heavy use is associated with risk of psychosis in vulnerable individuals, cognitive decline, and cannabis use disorder. Dose-response is biphasic for many effects, with low doses sometimes producing therapeutic benefit while higher doses exacerbate symptoms.
