§ 04 — SCIENCE

Multiple clinical trials (5 studies, 108 participants total) show Mucuna pruriens improves motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease with faster onset of action, prolonged 'on' duration, and fewer adverse events compared to synthetic levodopa, with no dyskinesia reported. Animal studies demonstrate antidepressant effects via modulation of dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, and inflammatory pathways. In vitro studies confirm neuroprotective, antioxidant, and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory properties superior to synthetic L-DOPA alone. However, clinical evidence remains limited by small sample sizes, heterogeneous interventions, and low study quality. No large-scale randomized controlled trials have been conducted, and long-term safety data are lacking.
