§ 04 — SCIENCE

Multiple human trials demonstrate that kudzu extract reduces alcohol consumption in heavy drinkers without altering subjective intoxication or sleep architecture. In vitro studies show potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, including protection of endothelial cells against oxidative stress. Animal studies suggest hepatoprotective and anti-osteoporotic properties, though human evidence for these indications is limited. One mouse study raised concerns about potential hepatotoxicity with prolonged high-dose administration. Kudzu root extract also shows in vitro anti-HIV activity by blocking viral attachment, though clinical relevance is unproven.
