EPITALON
Synthetic pineal tetrapeptide (AEDG) studied for telomerase activation, antioxidant and anti-aging effects.
Epitalon has been studied in vitro and in vivo over 25 years, primarily in Russian and Soviet-era research. It demonstrates telomere length extension through telomerase upregulation in normal human cells, antioxidant effects comparable to melatonin, and protection against post-ovulatory oocyte aging. Animal studies show increased lifespan in mice and fruit flies, restored circadian rhythms in old rhesus monkeys, and anti-carcinogenic effects in rat colon models. However, human clinical data is limited, much of the research originates from a single research group (Khavinson), and no large-scale randomized controlled trials have been published in Western journals. Physicochemical and structural characterization also remains limited.
