§ 04 — SCIENCE

Emoxypine is a registered pharmaceutical in Russia and Ukraine under multiple trade names (Mexidol, Mexicor, Armadin) but lacks approval in Western markets. Preclinical and clinical studies from Russia report antioxidant, antihypoxic, neuroprotective, and cardioprotective effects, with evidence of improved outcomes in ischemic stroke, heart failure, and cognitive disorders. A 2022 review highlighted iron-chelating properties and potential in neurodegenerative disease management. A 2024 zebrafish study demonstrated reduction of neuroinflammation markers (IL-1β, TNF-α, NLRP3) and improved behavioral outcomes. However, most evidence comes from Russian-language studies and animal models; large-scale randomized controlled trials in Western populations are lacking. A 2024 doping analysis paper noted that emoxypine and meldonium can co-appear in urine from contaminated milk, raising concerns about unintended doping positives.
