Nandrolone decanoate has been studied clinically for post-traumatic recovery, cachexia, Sjögren's syndrome, and telomeropathies, with modest benefits reported in some populations. A systematic review of 148 studies found endocrine side effects (42%), cardiovascular dysfunction (14%), skin disorders (12%), and psychiatric disturbances (9%) as the most common adverse effects in illicit users. Evidence for performance enhancement is largely observational and confounded by polypharmacy. Clinical trials are small and short-term, limiting conclusions on long-term safety. The compound remains medically approved in some countries for osteoporosis and anemia but has been withdrawn in others.
